here's toby!

Toby is a sociable toddler with Trisomy 21, and gastroesophageal and cardiac complications. At eleven weeks old, Toby came to TLFI for feeding issues and hypotonia. He was dusky in color and could barely open his eyes. He was able to remain alert for less than one minute, and was taking his nutrition through a Nasogastric Tube (NG-Tube). Toby could not begin therapy until he underwent surgeries to repair his heart.

Toby started therapy at TLFI at nine months of age. He was introduced to both sensory integration and reflex integration programs that included Kinesiotaping. Within two weeks he started to sit. After the third week he could sit up and play on his own for up to twenty minutes, pulling toys from containers and dropping them back in. He continues to need his NG-Tube, but his ability to swallow is progressing. He is also beginning to develop a taste for different pureed foods, and CAKE! Toby fed himself for the first time on his first birthday!
